A Brief History of the Arden MG Club

The Arden MG Club was founded in October 1988, when a group of six MG enthusiasts met for the first time at The Golden Cross, Ardens Grafton, near Stratford-upon-Avon. From that small beginning membership is over 100 with some 20-30 MG cars attending the summer meetings. Most types of MG cars are represented from pre-war to modern FWD cars.

The club is now chaired by Paul Dunster, who took over from Geoff & Vicki Edge in January 2011, after 2 years as they have now moved out of the area. The previous long standing Chairman was Allen Smith, who was still an active member of the club until the last Heritage Run (the clubs annual road run) took place.

Meetings take place on the first Tuesday of every month at the Golden Cross, Ardens Grafton, near Stratford-upon-Avon. The Golden Cross is a beautiful Warwickshire village pub also famous for its excellent meals. Please click on the link below to take you to Golden Cross website with information about the pub and directions to get there.

Meetings are informal, along the line of a 'noggin and natter'. Currently there is no membership fee, funds being raised by raffles. The club is affiliated to both the MG Owners Club & the MG Car Club, Midland Centre. During the year our members travel far and wide participating in classic, vintage and veteran car runs and attend many car shows.

The main event of the year for the club used to be the Heritage Run started in 1993, with the last event in 2017. The first Arden MG Heritage Run saw 200 cars leave Stratford upon Avon travelling some 30 miles through the back roads of Warwickshire to the Heritage Motor Museum at Gaydon. It then became an annual event, always finishing somewhere different each year. The final destination is selected for its histrorical or transport related interest.
